We were kindly invited along to Colin Glen Forest Park to try out the amazing SKYTrek Outdoor Facility. What a fantastic way to spend an afternoon and as if that wasn’t sufficient fun for a bright autumn day, we then got the opportunity to try out the very high-tech Toptracer golf facility.
Colin Glen Forest Park’s existing facilities include 200 acres of scenic woodland, a Gruffalo adventure trail, Toptracer driving range, 9-hole golf course, outdoor pitches, gym, archery, laser tag and an outdoor high ropes adventure course, SKYTrek. There really is something for all of the family.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the SKYTrek instructors who provided us with all of the necessary safety equipment and advice. We were immediately impressed by their enthusiasm and energy. They put us all at ease and the kids were looking forward to trying out the activities.
The SKYTrek session took approximately 90 minutes, the kids tried out the a range of suspended obstacles referred to as the low ropes followed by the similar but more challenging high ropes, they got to use the zip line and the vertical descender. After fun on the ropes, they climbed the climbing wall whilst being closely supervised by one of the instructors. The climbing wall has a range of difficulty options.
We can’t wait to go back again for some more fun. We are also looking forward to the arrival of some of the newer attractions such as Ireland’s first alpine toboggan ride, Ireland’s longest downhill zipline, a 60m x 65m 3G domed synthetic pitch and a cycling trail which will be based across Colin Glen’s neighbouring sites in West Belfast.
Once we had completed the SKYTrek, we then visited Colin Glen’s other site which is located approximately 4 minutes away from the Forest Park. There we tried out the Toptracer driving range. The Toptracer uses ball-tracing technology to trace the path of the ball. It is suitable for all ages and skill levels and was great fun. The technology can be used to practice and improve your skills but can also be used simply for fun. It allows you to select a golf course from around the world or simply play a fun point scoring game. After Saturday’s performance I think I’m going to need some more practice!
Colin Glen is a charity, dependent on investment, funding, donations and general sales so that they can continue to expand the facilities on offer.
