I love an adventure and try to make the most of every moment. I am mum of Ethan, Sophie and Isla and wife to Matt. In recent years my travelling style has changed somewhat from being an intrepid explorer of the world to a slightly more cautious traveller who is now responsible for 3 little people. My passion for travel is still as strong as ever albeit somewhat pared back while the kids are young. I believe that having a family does not prevent you from travelling. I have swapped glacier treks for forest walks and substituted deep see diving for aquarium visits but we still continue to travel. Prior to becoming a mum I travelled the world exploring anything from one of the historical wonders of the world that is Chichen Itza, Mexico to meandering down the backwaters of Kerala, India in a paddle boat. Travels these days are mostly European due to the fear of enduring a long-haul flight with kids. Although I am secretly planning a family version of ‘The Return to Oz’. I hope to instil my thirst for adventure and love of new experiences on to my children.
Many of my past travels are now hazy memories. I started my first travel blog in 2004, it contained a short synopsis of our location, a somewhat brief summary of activities and was more set up as a tool to assure our parents that we were still alive.
I have started writing about our ‘escapades’ so that I can share our experiences with the rest of the world. It will also serve as a journal for me to look back on and to see how with maturity our travels evolve. Who knows maybe I will come full circle and take another round-the-world year long trip this time as a family. I hope that our experiences will inspire others to take the plunge and embrace travelling with kids.
At 39 I still haven’t decided what I want to be when I grow up however when asked what my dream job would be I would always reply “A travel writer or Underwater Photographer”. Where better to start following my dreams than right here or at least part of it.
I am also a keen foodie. I love to explore new tastes both at home and on my travels. I want to document my food experiences and share some recipes and recommendations along the way.
At home Matt and I love to breathe new life into old things. I like to upcycle furniture whilst matt will pretty much turn his hand to anything. I would love to demonstrate some of my recent projects as well as some older ones.
We love to make the most of our weekends exploring our beautiful city of Belfast and many of the other fantastic locations around Northern Ireland. Creating wonderful memories as we go.
I’d love to take you along with us on our journey……..
